Symposium on Border Transportation Infrastructure Between the United States and Mexico

Objectives
- To present the main results of the Binational Border Transportation Planning and programming Study.
- To explore new methods of transport infrastructure planning between the United States and Mexico.
- To exchange experiences between groups involved in border problematic transportation infrastructure issues.

- Federal, state, and county officials involved in border transportation infrastructure development on both sides of the border.
- Professionals involved in border crossing activities and movements.
- Agencies dealing with transport infrastructure related subjects.
- Academic institutions and universities.
- Consultants interested in the topic.
Program
The Symposium will take place on July 30-31, from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm, and from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
Parts 1 and 3 will be carried out in plenary sessions, while part 2 will have plenary sessions and two simultaneous
workshops.
Program Structure
The program will be divided into three sections:
- Binational study background, objectives and working procedures.
- Binational study results.
- Future actions.
Background and Objectives
Two presentations, one by the United States and the other by Mexico, will address the following:
- Need, objectives, and working procedures of the Binational Border Transportation Planning and Programming Study.
- The content and the objectives of the symposium, as well as the expected results.
Presentaion of Study Results
This is the main part of the symposium. The Binational Study's results will be presented according to the following:
- General overview of the results.
- Most relevant methodologies.
- Binational database.
- Presentation of six Case Studies, (through round table discussions with invited commentators)
- Tijuana - San Diego
- Nogales - Nogales
- Cd. Juarez - El Paso
- Piedras Negras - Eagle Pass
- Nuevo Laredo - Laredo
- Matamoros - Brownsville
- Relevant border transport infrastructure planning experiences related to:
- Technology transfer.
- Regional and local organizations.
- Transportation institution and associations.
- Intelligent Transportation Systems for border crossing.
- inter-institutional framework.
- Recent examples of applications:
Future Actions
The proposed actions to coordinate the Binational Border Transportation Planning and programming Process will be presented during this part, including:
- Work program
- Means for the permanent attention of binational topics related to transportation infrastructure development ate the border.
- General conlusions
Languages
The official languages at the symposium will be English and Spanish. There will be simultaneous interpretation.
